OK, so we have listed some of the cool or cheap places to eat that we know. We try to keep our prices reasonable so you can spend elsewhere in Sydney. We haven't listed any expensive places, just either cheap or good value for the area. Cheap means a meal for about $12 and others around $20. How much you drink is up to you. A lot of places are BYO ( Bring Your Own) in Sydney. Ask us at the desk as things always change. Around the Hostel Chinatown is right across the road so there is plenty of cheap food from all over Asia. We have listed 4 places to eat within 3 minutes of the hostel. Xico - Vietnamese Scruffy Murphy's - pub food Fujiya - Japanese/Korean Senior Thai - Thai Five Star Kebab- right next door The Happy Chef - great Laksa in the Sussex Center Crystal Palace - good lunchtime pasta
Darling Harbour Blackbird Café Restaurant International Cheap Enough Range Cockle Bay Wharf This large, popular restaurant is a good affordable option and offers good food for every taste. There are heaps of hot-stone pizzas, plenty of hot or cold salads, wok stir-fries, a vegetarian list and staples like pasta and meat selections. The shady outdoor balcony is pleasant, as are the harbour views. A 15 minute walk from hostel. Cheap food near the city end of Oxford Street Bill & Toni's Italian Budget Prices 74 Stanley St 2010 Folks come to Bill & Toni's because it's a traditional destination for basic Italian cuisine, and, in our opinion, a national treasure. The service is lightning-fast, you still get your orange cordial for free and the cafe downstairs brews some of the best coffee in town.
Saturday/ Sunday Eating Badde Manors Cafe Glebe Point Road Go here on Market Day in Glebe which happens every Saturday. It's a 10 minute walk from the hostel. This long-established corner haunt is especially hectic on market day, when footpath tables are the holy grail. There are plenty of choices to make: lentil or tofu burgers, focaccias, bagels, frappés, smoothies, cakes, gelato and sticky date fig ginger pudding, among many other things. Just don't expect great service - they seem to revel in their name. A 15 minute walk from hostel. Hours: Mon-Thu 8:00am-12:00am, Fri-Sat 8:00am-1:00am, Sun 9:00am-12:00am Watsons Bay Hotel On a nice afternoon, the world seems a better place when enjoying a cold beer in the Watson’s Bay Hotel Beer Garden. It is incredibly popular on weekends. The food’s OK, but jugs of beer, a group of friends and a sunny day are the way to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the spectacular views up the Harbour. Best way to get there is to take the ferry from Circular Quay. 790 ON GEORGE |
